We are Birds of Passage
I came across a quote that truly inspired this painting.
The quote reads as follows:
“We are Birds of passage …… and must build our nests out of what materials we can find….”
Lady Wilson 1889
This painting is embellished with many different materials to emulate what birds do to construct their own nests.
The woman in this encaustic painting is clothed in fiber paper encased with straw and printed feathers.
The bird’s nest she is holding has materials such as leaves and other plant matter woven into it, as a bird would create.
The Crows on her right shoulder remind us that they are the architects of these beautiful dwellings that they have built.
The antique dictionary paper represents our quest for knowledge and to remember we in fact are responsible for fashioning our own nests from materials and wisdom we collect along our own life’s path.
The mountains are the majestic landscape that surrounds us along our journey through life.
